Senior Pictures in Northern Colorado: Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
Every year, it happens.
By the time school starts, our inbox fills up with messages from seniors (and parents) hoping to squeeze in a session before yearbook deadlines. Sometimes we can make it happen—but the best dates, locations, and sunsets have usually been spoken for.
If you're part of the Class of 2027, now is the time to start thinking about your senior pictures.
Your Senior Pictures Should Feel Like You
The best senior portraits aren't about stiff poses or fake smiles.
They're about capturing this season of your life before everything changes. Whether you're headed to college, joining the military, starting a career, or you're still figuring it all out, senior year is one of those moments you'll never get back.
We want your photos to look like you—not like everyone else in your graduating class.
If you're into football, volleyball, rodeo, dance, music, hunting, cars, hiking, or just hanging out with your friends, we'll build a session that reflects who you are.
Why Northern Colorado Is Such an Amazing Place for Senior Photos
One of our favorite parts of photographing seniors is that we don't have to travel far to find incredible scenery.
Within a short drive, we have open fields, mountain views, old barns, quiet country roads, downtown streets, lakes, and some of the best sunsets anywhere in Colorado.
Every season brings something different, which means no two sessions ever look exactly alike.
What to Wear (Without Overthinking It)
This is probably the question we get asked the most.
The answer is simple: wear something you feel comfortable and confident in.
Bring a couple of outfits that show different sides of your personality. Most seniors choose one casual outfit and one that's a little more dressed up. If you're involved in sports, music, FFA, cheer, or another activity that's been a big part of high school, it's always fun to include that too.
The goal isn't to dress like someone else. It's to look back at these pictures years from now and still recognize yourself.
"I'm Awkward in Front of the Camera."
We hear this almost every session.
And honestly? Almost everyone feels that way for the first ten minutes.
The good news is you don't need to know how to pose. That's our job.
We'll keep you moving, talking, laughing, and relaxed so your photos feel natural instead of forced. By the end of the session, most seniors are surprised by how easy it actually was.
Parents, These Photos Matter Too
Senior pictures aren't just for Instagram.
They're the photos that end up framed in your home long after graduation. They're the images grandparents keep forever and the ones you'll pull out years from now when your senior has a family of their own.
This season goes by faster than anyone expects.
Book Before the Calendar Fills Up
Summer and early fall are always our busiest time of year because that's when Northern Colorado looks its best—and because schools have yearbook deadlines that seem to arrive overnight.
If you're thinking about senior pictures this year, don't wait until everyone else is trying to book.
We'd love to help you create something that's relaxed, fun, and completely unique to you.
At Black Iron Photography, we photograph seniors throughout Windsor, Fort Collins, Loveland, Timnath, Severance, Eaton, Greeley, and across Northern Colorado. We'd be honored to help tell your story.
